On 14 April, a discussion ”Ukraine’s geopolitical orientation after the presidential elections: domestic and external dimensions” will take place at the Hotel Bergs, Elizabetes street 83/85, Riga. The discussion is organised jointly by the Baltic to Black Sea Alliance (BBSA), the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
The discussion, which is scheduled to start at 13:00, will be devoted to the situation in Ukraine after the presidential elections as well its foreign policy orientation – Eastern or Western direction. The discussion will gather political analysts and experts from Latvia, Ukraine and abroad, including advisor to the Ukraine’s presidential candidate Yuliya Tomoshenko during her election campaign Mr. Taras Berezovets.
Two sessions will take place during the discussion. The first session, moderated by the Chairman of the Baltic to Black Sea Alliance Ms. Sarmīte Ēlerte, will focus on the internal policy aspects. The following speakers will share their views: Executive Director of the International Renaissance Foundation in Ukraine Dr. Yevhen Bystrytsky, Director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine Mr. Nico Lange, spin doctor and director of Ukrainian PR group Polittech Mr. Taras Berezovets and the public representative of Investment and Development Agency of Latvia in Ukraine Mr. Jefim Schabad.
The second session will focus on the foreign policy choices between East and West and will be moderated by the LATO Board member and the Director of Latvian Institute of International Affairs Dr. Andris Sprūds. Speakers will include the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Mr. Andris Teikmanis, Professor of Political Science and Founding Director of the School for Policy Analysis at the University of ‘Kyiv-Mohyla Academy’ Dr. Olexiy Haran, and Senior Fellow at the Jamestown Foundation Mr. Vladimir Socor.
