From September 24 until October 3 two Latvian high school students Mareks Zēvalds and Mikus Pētersons will take part in the Aliante 2013 Winners trip in Turkey!

Aliante’s aim is to raise the understanding of the North Atlantic Alliance, security policy and international affairs. This year’s winners will have a chance to see a completely different part of the world – Turkey, NATO’s eastern border. Turkey is not only a favourite holiday destination with countless cultural monuments or numerous beaches. It is also a crucial ally of NATO with its strong military power and significant contribution to NATO operations. Visits to some of the Turkish military bases will thus be a real treat and an unforgettable experience, enhanced by the nation’s different history and cultural heritage.

During the Winners Trip, youngster will travel through various cities in Turkey from Ankara to Istanbul. They will visit Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc, Flight Research and Training Facility, NATO Army and Navy bases, Turkish War Academy, Military Museum and many significant places for the Turkish history and culture. On the second day of the visit Latvian team will meet Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mr. Atis Sjanītis.

To earn the chance to go to Turkey, youngsters had to prove their selves in Stockholm, where they had to go through physical as well as mental examinations. This year for the Aliante contest is more than special, because for the first time in 12 years Turkish Ministry of National Defense has opened their doors to the civil citizens. Therefore we are proud to mention that such unique opportunity wouldn’t be possible without kindly support from the Turkish Airlines in Latvia!
