For the ninth consecutive year taking place in Riga will be the largest security and foreign policy forum in Northern Europe – Rīga Conference 2014 – which on September 12th and 13th of this year will bring together high-level foreign security and foreign policy experts, diplomats, politicians, academics, business persons and journalists in the Latvian National Library – Gaismas pils.
With the presentation of viewpoints and provocative proposals by experts regarding current world events, each year a broad range of security and foreign policy issues are reviewed at the Conference. The following topics will be covered during the Conference: the consequences, impact and possible developments of the Ukrainian-Russian military conflict; the Riga Eastern Partnership summit and changes it can bring; challenges in development of a unified energy market in Europe; the increasing influence of populism, nationalism and extremism on a unified policy in Europe; as well as viewpoints of experts on whether the current economic and financial crisis will tilt the scales of power in the world.

Taking part in the Conference discussion panels this year will be such prominent individuals as Secretary-General of the OECD Angel Gurría, Minister of Defence of Norway Ine Eriksen Søreide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevicius, Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maia Panjikidze, Minister of National Defence of Poland Tomasz Siemoniak, as well as Professor of US Foreign Policy, Old Dominion University, Zbigniew Brzezinski Chair (Emeritus) in Global Security and Geostrategy, CSIS, Simon Serfaty.
