Latvian Foreign Minister and others to give lectures at an international summer programme.

From 27th till 31st August, guest house “Rakari” in the Salacgrīva county will welcome the first “Summer Programme for Undergraduate Students from Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia and Ukraine 2015”, where more than 70 students will discuss current issues in defence and foreign policy with various experts. 

 

The programme, which is organised by the Baltic to Black Sea Alliance, and the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation, with the support of NATO Public Diplomacy Department and Friedrich Ebert Foundation will provide promising students with the opportunity to meet with experts, diplomats, and government representatives from Baltic and Black sea regions, which have felt the changing geopolitical scene the most.

 

Baltic to Black Sea Alliance’s  Project organiser Ms Evita Gaide believes that “it is exactly such trans-cultural events, where youngsters work together in groups, that help to foster the development of democratic values also in future generations”, likewise Friedrich Ebert foundation’s Baltic States project manager, Ms. Regīna Plīkša adds that “it is possible to develop ever more important dialogue between youth from various states, encouraging them to share with their emotions and opinions, think and judge themselves”.

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, Director of NATO Information Office in Moscow, Robert Pszczel, Director of NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine, Nataliya Nemylivska, Member of the European Parliament, Artis Pabriks, and other accomplished experts will share their knowledge with the students in areas of strategic communication, cyber-defence and energy security, Eastern Partnership in regional and wider context, NATO and Transatlantic relations, as well as the European Union and its regionalisation.
