The Rīga Conference Future Leaders Forum 2016, an official side event of The Rīga Conference 2016, will take place between 27th and 29th October at the National Library of Latvia and will welcome 56 young professionals, between the ages of 18 to 30, from 24 countries across 4 continents to discuss issues important to the Transatlantic Community.
Several panel discussions will cover the most urgent security and defence issues such as NATO’s defence capabilities of its eastern and southern boarders, its effectiveness in the execution of the decisions made by its member states. Among the confirmed speakers of the forum are Gen. Sir. Richard Shirreff, the former Deputy Supreme Commander NATO; Mr. Jānis Sārts, the Director of NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence; Mr. Giles Portman, the Head of East Stratcom Task Force at European External Action Service; H.E. Mr. Hayri Hayret Yalav, Ambassador of Turkey in Latvia, as well as Dr. Gerlinde Niehus, the Head of the Engagements Section of NATO. The forum willbe conducted in English. Along with discussions, the participants will also conduct a simulation aiming to replicate the proceedings of the North Atlantic Council meeting in emergency situations. The simulation will present two fictive scenarios for the participants, each of whom will be assigned a NATO Member State to represent.
