Latvian Transatlantic Organisation, in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Baltic States and Latvian Political Science Association, had assembled the young political leaders in masterclasses on June and May in 2020. The goal of the project was to develop the political competences of the new leaders from Latvian secondary schools and universities.
Within the framework of the program, the participants were given an opportunity to learn more about the opinions and experience of Latvia’s leading politicians, as well as to get an insight on how their gained knowledge can be used in practice. The programme of the masterclasses was made of several thematic blocks, in which many politically significant questions, such as democracy and values; the relationship between democracy and security, the significance of political participation in democracy, Latvia’s experience as a NATO and European Union member; and the future of EU and NATO, were covered.
The master classes took place online, which allowed the participants to participate and discuss politically important topics, regardless of their location. The programme was concluded with an essay competition, which gave the participants an opportunity to test their knowledge and skills, as well as publish their essays in a special issue of the journal “Latvia’s interests in the European Union”.
